This SE Portland project started with the need to add a cover and a safe place for the grandchildren to play.
This is the before photo. This home had a existing concrete pad that was in good shape.
The patio was framed up larger than the existing pad. This allowed us to dig proper footing for the patio cover posts.
The floor joists were shaped to the slope of the concrete. The new patio height is even with the interior floor.
When we use a decking product that will last 50+ years Joist Tape is recommended. Joist Tape sits on the floor joists protecting the joist from water intrusion. We installed this TimberTech AZEK decking using a hidden fastener system designed for the product.
The cedar-framed patio cover is clad with a metal roof.
The cedar framed handrail is being filled with Wild Hog Panels.
The first time we have done a sliding handrail gate. It works pretty well. As you can see it won't open all of the way.
All finished up! The customer had us install a rain chain. The planter box is a great way to provide privacy.
